The Chevy Traverse is the kind of SUV that makes a full day out with kids feel less like a logistical challenge and more like something you’d actually want to do again. Three rows, real cargo space, smart storage, and a cabin that stays calm no matter how the day unfolds.

To see it in action, Chevy Detroit’s Katie recently spent a Saturday at Belle Isle with her son, Jake, hitting the Belle Isle Aquarium, the Dossin Great Lakes Museum, and the Belle Isle Nature Center all in one day. [Watch the video here.]

That kind of day, spontaneous, full, and completely manageable, is exactly what the Traverse is built for. And Belle Isle is just one of the places around Metro Detroit worth loading up for.

WHAT THE TRAVERSE BRINGS TO THE DAY

Room for everyone, and everything they bring

The Traverse seats up to eight passengers across three rows¹ with the available second-row bench seat on the LT trim. The Z71, RS, and High Country trims seat seven. Either way, the whole family fits without anyone making a case for staying home.

Second-row legroom comes in at over 41 inches, and the third row offers over 32 inches, enough for kids in car seats, teens with opinions about personal space, and adults who actually need to sit back there. The standard AutoSense power liftgate opens hands-free, so loading up when your arms are full is one less thing to coordinate.

With up to 98 cubic feet of best-in-class cargo volume², there’s room for a full-size stroller, a packed bag, and whatever else the day requires. Behind the third row, there’s still enough space for the essentials without having to move all of your cargo every time you need to leave the driveway.

Storage that actually makes sense

Family vehicles accumulate stuff fast. The center console has enough room for the things that rotate in and out of a family car daily: snacks, wipes, hand sanitizer, and sunglasses. Rear passengers have their own cupholders within reach and door pockets, so the front seat isn’t the only place things land and everything isn’t living on the floor.

A cabin that doesn’t wear you out

The Traverse cabin is well-insulated and quiet on the road. Rear climate controls mean the back seat isn’t at the mercy of whatever the front is doing.

The standard 17.7-inch diagonal infotainment touchscreen can be personalized to your liking and runs Google built-in,³ with Google Maps, Google Play, and Google Gemini³ available at your fingertips. Navigation, music, and voice commands work the way you already expect them to without any setup.

Safety that travels with you

Every 2026 Traverse comes standard with Chevy Safety Assist4 and Rear Cross Traffic Braking4, which adds meaningful awareness when backing out of parking spots and busy lots. It’s one of those features that comes up constantly on a day with multiple stops.

HD Surround Vision5 is standard on the High Country and RS trims and available on the LT, giving you a bird’s-eye view of what’s around the vehicle when maneuvering in tight spaces. For families navigating crowded parking areas, it’s one of those features that earns its place fast.

WHERE TO TAKE IT IN METRO DETROIT

Belle Isle

Belle Isle is a strong starting point for a family day, and Katie’s Saturday is a good example of how much ground you can cover in a few hours. The Belle Isle Aquarium is one of the oldest aquariums in the country and consistently delivers for kids of all ages. The Dossin Great Lakes Museum is hands-on and genuinely interesting for both kids and adults. The Belle Isle Nature Center has wildlife and open space that give kids room to move after a few hours of mostly indoor exploring.

The island has parking throughout, and the standard AutoSense liftgate makes unloading strollers, bikes, or gear quick once you arrive.

Midtown Detroit

The stretch around Woodward is one of the most family-friendly concentrations of things to do in the city. The Detroit Institute of Arts has programming for kids and enough collections that it fills a full morning or afternoon without running out of things to see. The Detroit Historical Museum covers enough of the city’s story to spark curiosity at most ages. The Michigan Science Center is right nearby and purpose-built for hands-on family visits.

All three are close enough together that one trip can realistically cover two or three stops without a lot of extra driving between them.

The Detroit Zoo

The Detroit Zoo in Royal Oak is one of Metro Detroit’s most dependable family destinations across every season. A stroller in the back, a cooler if you’re packing lunch, extra layers in case the weather shifts. It all fits without compromise. Unloading is easy when you arrive, and the cargo space means you’re not choosing between what to bring and what to leave behind.

Maybury State Park and Metro Detroit’s trail systems

Metro Detroit’s state parks and metroparks are worth building a day around when the weather cooperates. Maybury State Park in Northville has paved and natural trails that work for bikes, strollers, and kids at most ages. Stony Creek Metropark, Kensington Metropark, and Island Lake State Recreation Area each offer a different experience within easy driving distance of the city.

The Traverse handles the drive and carries everything that goes with an outdoor day. Bikes on the hitch, gear in the back, snacks for the trail.

Eastern Market and Metro Detroit neighborhoods

Eastern Market on a Saturday morning is a natural fit for families, and the Traverse’s cargo space handles a full market haul alongside whatever else you’ve packed for the day. Midtown, Corktown, and Ferndale all have walkable stretches with coffee, lunch, and stops that work for a range of ages. Easy to make into a half-day without a lot of planning.

Whether it’s Belle Isle on a Saturday, a trail at Kensington, or a morning at Eastern Market, the Traverse is ready before you are.
